How to Apply Scent to Fishing Lures

The scent pads are comprised of round, felt cabinet door bumper pads, in 1/4”, 3/8” and 1/2” diameter sizes. These can be purchased at most hardware stores, and are usually brown, cream or green in color. The following procedures will explain how to install the felt scent pads on a few different styles of fishing lures.

How to install scent pads onto inline spinning lures. (Tawnters, Bucktails, etc.)
1. Remove the end hook and split ring
2. Take appropriate size felt (depending on the size of the lure), puncture or slit the center of the pad.
3. Insert the end loop of the lure through the puncture of the felt and push the felt up the wire shaft onto or just above the wire twist of lure shaft.
4. Install split ring and hook.
5. Drench the felt with your choice of fish attractant.

How to install scent pad onto Bass style spinner baits. (large to small)
1. Choose the appropriate size felt for lure size.
2. Puncture the center of the felt with the lure hook and slide the felt up and around the curve of the hook, up the straight section of the hook shaft, up to the body, and underneath the fringe.
3. Drench the felt with your choice of fish attractant.

How to install scent pad onto crank baits and jerk baits
1. Remove the rear split ring with hook.
2. Use the appropriate size felt (depending on lure size), puncture of slit the center of the pad.
3. Push the felt up over the split ring loop of the lure through the puncture.
4. Install hook and split ring.
5. Drench the felt with your choice of fish attractant
Special note: If there isn’t enough space between the lure body and the split ring loop to reinstall the split ring, simply remove the split ring off of the hook and slide the felt onto the hook shaft through the puncture of the felt and reinstall the split ring and hook onto the lure.
If you’re trying to install felt on a fairly small lure, simply cut down the diameter of the felt with scissors.

How to install scent pad onto gliding baits with soft or hard plastic which have split rings attaching the hooks to the body
1. Follow the instructions for crank baits and jerk baits.

How to install scent pad onto gliding baits with soft or hard plastic and fixed hooks protruding from the top or bottom of the lure body
1. Puncture the felt in the center, using the rear bottom or rear top hook.
2. Slide the felt onto the rear top or rear bottom hook with sticky side of felt towards lure body and press firmly to body, allowing the felt to adhere to the lure body.
3. Drench the felt with your choice of fish attractant.
